Images for the Web Should be 72 dpi
That refers to the dots per inch. Your screen will only show a certain resolution. Print images should be 300dpi to look nice.

Photos and graphics for the web follow a few basic rules.

They should fit on the screen without being forced to a different size by the html. When you see a photo that's off kilter, it's probably been made narrower but the height was not done proportionally.

A width of 600 or 500 pixels is a good size width. If you see a width of 2500, it probably has not been resized, and it's bigger than most screens.

Web images should be saved as .jpg, .gif, or .png.
