or … what your customer expects when they visit your web site.
Plumber
Your plumber has a certain set of tools, a job that involves skill, knowledge, and lots of muscle. He also may be under your house, opening up walls, in your attic, and his hands and clothes show it.
Broker
Your broker, insurance rep, banker, … all pretty much wear business clothes. Also a job that requires a set of tools, knowledge, and lots of study. Their hands and clothes show it.
Imagine
Imagine calling a plumber, and he shows up dressed like your broker. Polished shoes. Cuff links. Perfect hair. There is a disconnect, and even if you don’t put it in words, there is a mismatch between what you expect, and what you see. Somehow, you won’t have trust that this guy is going to be helping solve your plumbing problem, or if he is, it’s going to cost more than you expect.
Your Website Design
The same principals apply online. Your web site should reflect the expectations of your client, and should be honest. When you meet and do business, there won’t be an uncomfortable disconnect.
